Siikalatva municipality is located in the province of Northern Ostrobothnia, geographically in the center of Finland. The municipality has four settlements: Kestilä, Piippola, Rantsila and Pulkkila.
Transport connections
The municipality is crossed by highway 4 and mainroad 88. Siikalatva is about an hour’s drive to Oulu, Raahe, Ylivieska, Iisalmi and Kajaani.
Public transport:
Siikalatva is easily accessible by car. Buses from Oulu, Kuopio and Ylivieska also stop at Siikalatva. Most bus services to and from Ylivieska have connections to the train services between Helsinki and Oulu. You can check the current bus timetables at Matkahuolto’s site here

Waters
The area’s major rivers are Siikajoki and its tributaries, as well as the Lamujoki.
The Uljua Reservoir, originally built to control the flooding of the Siikajoki, is probably the most well-known of the municipality’s artificial lakes. Our other reservoir is the Kortteisen tekojärvi.
The largest natural lakes in Siikalatva are Kivijärvi, Viitastenjärvi, Kurranjärvi and Mankilajärvi.
Nature exercise
Siikalatva is an excellent place for a variety of nature activities. A significant part of our municipality’s area is swamp and there are rocks to climb and trails to walk on.
For example, the Haapavuori rock formations are conveniently located along highway 4 in Pulkkila.
There are plenty of natural resources and you have a good chance to see wild animals.
Attractions and events
The geographical center of Finland can be found in the village of Leskelä in Siikalatva. In addition to the landmark at the center, other attractions include the Rantsila statues, the Mankila village giants, the Finnish War of 1808-1809 memorial and local history museums. In the summer, there are several active summer theaters in the area.
